Karin Hostetter Bio

 

 

Karin Hostetter has been writing curricula, developing programs, and teaching classes for over twenty years.  While most of her training is with zoos, natural history museums, and nature centers, she has also worked with first person living history museums.  Karin’ s areas of expertise include developing nonformal programs, designing pre-school and family programs, creating non-formal programs that address formal school needs, training volunteers in interpretive skills, and conducting teacher training sessions on teaching science as well as other subjects using non-formal science institutions.  Several of her programs have won national awards including:

 

Wonders in Nature - Wonders in Neighborhoods with the Denver Zoo and Colorado Division of Wildlife:  Outstanding Curriculum with American Association of Zoos and Aquarium, 1998 and Outstanding Curriculum with the National Association for Interpretation, 1995.

Which “Ology is Which?” with Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary:  Award of Merit for Education Programs with Texas Historical Commission, 1986.

 

In addition, Karin is active in local and national professional organizations.  She is a founding and life member with the National Association for Interpretation and received their Meritorious Service Award in 1989 and 1993.
